Sometimes the Rain, Sometimes the Sea – Dacha Theatre @ UW main campus (Seattle) ☀️
Sometimes the Rain, Sometimes the Sea is a lovely and haphazard collision of multiple stories, framed as a sort-of retelling of The Little Mermaid.
The Little Mermaid is Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved and well-known fairy tale, but it’s not the story our friend, Dolan, is going to tell you today. No, he’s going to tell you the story about a Little Rain Cloud who falls in love with a human. They are not the same story at all, he swears.
Sometimes the Rain, Sometimes the Sea is a beautiful and challenging read on modern relationships, whether we are the heroes in our own stories, and what love really looks like, all spun within a nostalgic and magical and silly container. It is irreverent and unapologetic in its chaos, but lands on lovely poignant moments about why we tell the stories that we tell. Written by Julia Izumi; directed by Kate Drummond. Run time: 80 minutes.
Location: lawn outside Hughes Penthouse Theatre (UW main campus)
