Figure Studies (one-act plays) – Parley @ West of Lenin (Seattle – Fremont)
Parley presents Figures Studies, a triptych of one-act plays. A world premiere workshop reading, directed by Rebecca Tourino Collinsworth.
Plays:
Women & Femmes, or Females (by Nelle Tankus)
Why are women? Are women? Women? Not that it matters.
A transfeminist play borne from rage about being perceived by cisheteropatriarchy, faux inclusion in mainstream feminists spaces, cis white feminism’s obsession with essentialism … and (something else).
Half Sister (by n8 heneghan)
“My dad was a struggling fashion designer. He left before I turned one, so I dont remember him that well. His name was James Dean. I actually didnt make the connection until I had to watch Rebel Without a Cause for a class in high school. I thought, Hey, thats my dads name! I mean, what kind of parents name their half-Korean kid James Dean? My mom claims that he met some actress who convinced him he could be a star himself and he followed her down to LA. Thats all I know.”
Solo Performance for Chicken Suit and Two-Stringed Guitar (written & performed by Carol Y. Lee)
What I’m really here to do is to lead a worship service and give my testimony in the style of the Pentecostals, who I spent a good deal of time with in my youth. Mama Hen and Papa Rooster are ordained ministers. One could say it’s in our blood. The Presbyterians fed me dinner, the Nazarenes sent me to school, but the Pentecostals turned me into a chicken.
Tickets are $17 suggested, with pay-what-you-choose (starting at $0) offered for all.
