Future Ancestors is the second of two complementary sections of zoe | juniper’s performance, The Other Shore. Within this immersive sculptural installation and durational performance taking place over 60 minutes, seven dancers offer different solo performances over the course of the weekend. Future Ancestors highlights the vulnerabilities of performers and audiences and examines the experience of seeing and being seen by expanding the possibilities of perception. Each dancer’s unique solo was inspired by their birth story, the works instigated by asking family about the day they were born.
During this 60-minute performance installation, you are encouraged to move around the performer in the sculpture, in essence co-choreographing the performance experience with how you move about and where you stand. Different from Always Now, the audience moves around the dancer inside of the sculpture, whereas in Always Now, the audience is on the floor and the dancers move around them.
