Theater Anonymous: Casablanca – The 14/48 Projects @ Cornish Playhouse (Seattle Center – Mercer St.)
This night blends two favorite events: the Speakeasy Fundraiser and the mysterious Theater Anonymous.
Before the show: a night of gambling and fun at Rick’s Cafe begins at 5:30pm, with the lobby open and the courtyard set up as Rick’s casino. Try your hand at Blackjack, Roulette, Craps, or Texas Hold ‘Em! Or just stroll around and enjoy 14/48 photos and good company. There will be drinks and snacks and revelry.
Then at 8pm the show begins: a Theater Anonymous version of Casablanca, adapted from the movie script and celebrating its 80th Anniversary. At the end of the show is a Raise the Paddle fundraiser.
Not familiar with the Theater Anonymous style of theater? The premise of Theater Anonymous is simple. Nobody knows the cast, not even the cast. Approximately 30 actors have been selected through an invitation process and each are rehearsing one-on-one with the directors, never meeting their fellow actors. Actors must take an oath of secrecy and are allowed to tell only one other person on earth that they are participating. Who will be Rick? Who will play Ilsa? Captain Renault? Nobody knows, and that’s the fun of it!
Tickets ($25+) here.
This performance is listed as ASL interpreted. As always, please check with the theatre to confirm that has not changed. To reserve seats nearest the interpreter, contact theatre in advance of show.
