Of Note

Fittingly with Friday the 13th at the door, the spooky season really gets underway this weekend. Find creepy tales from Kelleen Conway Blanchard (Battle Crow Radio) at Annex Theatre, kicking off the long-running fringe hideaway’s first season back since the pandemic. Hear a rockin’ and witchy, women-centered take on “the Scottish play” (Macbeth: A Rock Musical) at Seattle Public Theater. And abscond to spooky secluded surroundings with Dacha Theatre, whose latest immersive and interactive work (The Veil) wrangles magic in the dark halls of a forested, south-end mansion.

Need a switch from the spooky stuff? Seattle-based playwright Andrew Lee Creech’s latest (Last Drive to Dodge), on now at Taproot Theatre might be his best work yet. Story, staging, and performances all come together in this stand-out play, where Reconstruction and the open range combine for a beautiful take on some meanings and possibilities of freedom.
