A loving but dysfunctional, mixed race Japanese/American family has an uneasy reunion when the matriarch undergoes treatment for cancer. James and Masako, along with their daughters Sophie and Hiro (and her friend John) come to grips with their relationships and their mortality, in a story that is written with wry, honest wit under extraordinary personal circumstances.
