‘Fashion Is ART’ Lives Up to Its Name
The Tacoma fashion show, produced by Fashion District NW and held at the Tacoma Art Museum on Saturday night (March 30), brought innovative, artistic looks to the runway in a creative and free-flowing environment.
Designers included Dawnamatrix, latex fashion creator in south King County; painter Chance Watt of Eastern Washington; high-tech designer Lumen Couture of Calgary; and bondage-looking gear from Seattle swimwear designer Jersey Virago.
The runway was the center of the event, but lots more was going on. Artists drew gorgeous live portraits of the looks and models, and sponsors like Tease Chocolates handed out delicious samples. Designers and models circulated and talked with attendees throughout the evening. The event was low-key, allowing attendees to arrive attired as they wanted (with creativity encouraged), and wander around throughout the night, between runway looks, artist rooms, and sponsor tables and bars.
The next event from Fashion District NW (no relation to NWTheatre) is Couture & Cars, a runway show at LeMay – America’s Car Museum, on July 20. Tickets $40-$75; info here.
